Most people who know the word daisakkai (大殺界) could not tell you when their own one falls. Japanese fortune sites announce each year’s affected groups, but working out the year after that, or the one after that, is another matter.
In fact, the three daisakkai years are fixed to the Chinese zodiac animal of the year, separately for each of the twelve star types. Learn that mapping once and you can calculate any year yourself. This article gives the complete table for all twelve types and shows how to derive the full twelve-year cycle from it.

What daisakkai means
Daisakkai is a run of three consecutive years — inei, teishi and gentai — within the twelve-year cycle of Rokusei Senjutsu.
The system holds that fortune moves through a twelve-year cycle. Each of the twelve stages has a name.

There are three kinds of unlucky period, not one. Stage 4 is the small one, stage 6 the middle one, and stages 10 to 12 are daisakkai. Five of every twelve years carry one of these labels.
Within the system, daisakkai is treated as a time to hold your position and consolidate rather than start something new. In practice it is used to avoid major decisions: changing jobs, marrying, going independent, moving house.
The three years are fixed by zodiac animal
Each star type has a fixed set of three zodiac years. Knowing them lets you judge any year yourself.

Plus and minus versions of the same star are offset by one year. Mars plus starts in a Snake year; Mars minus starts in a Horse year.

To calculate it directly, take the year modulo 12. A remainder of 0 is Monkey, 1 Rooster, 2 Dog, 3 Boar, 4 Rat, 5 Ox, 6 Tiger, 7 Rabbit, 8 Dragon, 9 Snake, 10 Horse and 11 Goat.

Deriving the rest of the twelve-year cycle
Once you know your three daisakkai years, the other nine follow in order. Seed is the year after decline.

The construction is identical for every type. Start from the zodiac year of your shadow stage and count back nine to reach seed — that is all you need to name your stage in any year.
One caution about where the year begins
Some practitioners of Rokusei Senjutsu start the year at risshun (立春, around 4 February) rather than 1 January. People born in January or very early February may be assigned to the previous year for both the star type and the annual reading, so it is worth checking more than one source.
Interpretations also differ on how daisakkai begins — some hold that its influence starts in the autumn of the preceding year.
Finding your star type first
The table above needs your star type including the plus or minus. It is determined mechanically from your date of birth.

The destiny number is the awkward part. It is a fixed value for each year-and-month combination, which means consulting a lookup table. This is where most people doing it by hand give up.

A workable way to read it
“Do nothing” is not a usable interpretation. “Consolidate rather than start” is.
Being frightened into indecision defeats the purpose. Three years in every twelve is a quarter of your life. Nobody achieves anything while treating a quarter of their years as forbidden.

The part I find genuinely useful is that it gives you a fixed frame for scheduling preparation. Counting backwards from a year several years out, and deciding what to do in the meantime, is a reasonable planning exercise. Whether or not the predictions hold, the twelve-year structure works well for that.
